During your pregnancy … All visits take place in your own home. The first visit is an opportunity to get to know one another in a friendly and unhurried atmosphere while a full medical and maternity history is taken. I then visit you regularly to check your urine, blood pressure, the growth of your baby and your general well being, to talk through any concerns, and to help you prepare for your baby's birth and your care afterwards. There is an array of screening, diagnostic tests and scans, changing constantly as new research and technology becomes available. I am happy to discuss these with you and help you to decide which, if any, are right for you, these can then be arranged at a location of your choice. Blood tests can be carried out in your own home. During your care you will be in possession of your Maternity Notes, these contain a record of your antenatal care, labour, and postnatal care. At discharge you may keep a copy, which serves as a detailed memento of your pregnancy, birth, and postnatal period. I provide classes designed to help prepare women and their partners for childbirth and early parenting. A course of classes usually consists of five one and half hour sessions. Classes take place at my home and are held in the evenings so as not to clash with work commitments. Classes can either be taken in a group setting or as a couple. For more details see the section on classes. |
